Intro Title
Faculty Spotlight: Nora Neus

Fashion Media professor is an Emmy-nominated producer, writer, and freelance journalist. With a body of multidisciplinary work covering some of the world鈥檚 most pressing issues, her career has taken her to news outlets such as CNN and the NBC affiliate in Charlottesville, Virginia, and her pieces have been published in Teen Vogue, VICE News, POLITICO, Esquire, and more.

Professor Neus teaches the online course New Media: Writing Editing, Visuals. Part of LIM鈥檚 Fashion Media major, the course is designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge needed for careers in digital media, such as interviewing, editing, research, and maintaining journalistic integrity.

Treating her class like a newsroom, Professor Neus serves as the 鈥渆ditor鈥 to help students experience what it is like to work for a media outlet, learn how to communicate with a real editor in the workplace, and meet publication deadlines.

To that end, Professor Neus expects a professional level of work from her students. At the conclusion of the course, she even encourages students to submit their final articles to professional media outlets.

Professor Neus believes fashion can be 鈥渁 lens through which to view the world,鈥 and notes that many of her students use fashion as a jumping off-point to explore hard-hitting related issues, including body image and the psychological impact of social media.

Professor Neus also makes it a priority to infuse her own professional work into her instruction. This past spring, she spent time at the beginning of each class session discussing stories she was working on, including how much she was being paid for them.

She notes, 鈥淚t felt really important to me to be transparent with my students because that鈥檚 the only way they are going to learn how the industry really works.鈥
