Emily, who is originally from Long Island, NY, transferred into LIM after attending Suffolk County Community College. She received a bachelor鈥檚 degree in Fashion Merchandising in 2016 and used connections from an LIM internship to get a job at NYLON Magazine after graduation. She鈥檚 now a Digital Merchandise Assistant in Macy鈥檚 men鈥檚 shoe department.
Why did you decide to transfer to LIM?
I always wanted a career in fashion, but I wanted to complete my core classes first, so that when I came to LIM all my courses would be fashion-based.
What can you say about the professors you had?
They were all very knowledgeable in their subject and always had time to answer questions or provide additional support if needed. The smaller class sizes at LIM really allow you to get the most out of every course.
What internships did you do while you were an LIM student?
First, I interned in sales at Zumiez. Then I did an internship at NYLON Magazine, where I learned about e-commerce and what goes into running a successful online business. My Senior Co-Op internship was in logistics at HAVEN Collective, an online yoga apparel boutique. All of my internships helped me feel secure in knowing that I thrive best in a behind-the-scenes, e-commerce-based role.
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
While I was at NYLON Magazine, I helped launch their first (and only) subscription box!
If you could give career advice to your younger self, what would it be?
Nothing is permanent and that鈥檚 okay! What you want to do will change and so will the places you want to be. Getting experience and networking are so important in this business, so always be kind and strong in your beliefs. If you want an internship or job somewhere and it doesn鈥檛 work out, another door will open.
