After graduating from Marist College in 2020 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree, Kamilah didn't let the COVID pandemic slow her momentum. Enrolling in LIM's master鈥檚 degree program in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management later that year, she has used that degree to become an Assistant Buyer at Ross Stores.

What made you choose LIM as the next step in your education?

I earned my undergrad degree from Marist College in May of 2020 and made the decision to go back to school for my master's just a few months later. LIM is one of the top schools to earn a grad degree in the business side of fashion, and I had heard nothing but great things about it.

Graduating during a global pandemic was difficult, and I knew going back to school during the pandemic would be even more difficult. However, I knew I had everything to gain at LIM and that this program would make me more knowledgeable in one of my main passions, fashion merchandising.

How did LIM help you take the next step in your career?

LIM鈥檚 Virtual Career Fair is a great example of how this school helped me take the next steps with my career. This small yet impactful fair was held through Handshake, LIM鈥檚 online job and internship platform, and helped me build upon a connection I had first made as a Marist undergrad with one of the HR recruiters from Ross Stores. And today, I work at Ross Stores as an Assistant Buyer.

I鈥檝e been able to use what I learned from a variety of different courses I took at LIM in daily situations at work. With the knowledge I gained, I can bring a different point of view and understanding to my team and upper management.

What is it like to work in buying?

It is extremely exciting work because I always feel like I鈥檓 kept on my toes with what's next to come. It鈥檚 also rewarding when you see how well the customer is reacting to the product that you brought in. It really brings joy and accomplishment to your heart鈥攁t least for me it does.
