During the Covid epidemic, the Department of Public Instruction printed and distributed textbooks in a timely manner.

The Department of Education has been able to deliver the required textbooks to all children ahead of the opening of the school in the 2021-22 academic year. As in the previous year, the textbooks were printed in three volumes.

The first volume contains 288 titles and the second and third volumes have 183 and 66 titles, respectively. The first volume of textbooks needed to start school classes was delivered in the first week of June, despite Covid's hardship. This is 2.62 crore textbooks. In addition, an additional 10 lakh volumes of textbooks have been donated to public schools this year.

1.71 crore second volume textbooks for the academic year 2021-22 have been distributed and textbooks for newly arrived students have been distributed.

Out of the total 66 titles in the third volume, 46 titles were combined with the second volume and printed and distributed, leaving only 20 titles in the third volume this year. The third volume was to distribute all the textbooks required for the academic year 2021-22, including 19.34 lakh books.

Arrangements for the printing of textbooks required for the 2022-23 academic year have been initiated as per the decision of the Higher Level Monitoring Committee chaired by the Principal Secretary, Department of Public Instruction. The printing of the first volume of textbooks required for the next academic year has already started at KBPS.

Minister for Public Education and Labor V Sivankutty said that it was a great achievement to be able to print and distribute textbooks in a timely manner even during the Covid epidemic. The Minister pointed out that the activities for the next academic year can be started in a timely manner.
