The Kollam District Committee of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has demanded that trade and industry be exempted from the hartal called by the left and right joint trade unions in Kerala. It has been only a month since the commercial sector, which had been completely closed for the past four months in the wake of the Covid expansion, reopened. Many traders have already committed suicide as their business collapsed.

Such hartals and bandhs are imposed only to protect the political interests of the debt-ridden traders. This is beyond the reach of society.

The responsible political leaders themselves, who have no moral role to play in reviving the shattered trade and industry sector, are staging hartals to accelerate the collapse of the sector. District President Advocate S Venugopal, General Secretary P Anil, and Treasurer Thekkadam Harish demanded that the traders and industrialists be exempted from the hartal.
